The arrival of Chris Paul to the Warriors is still difficult to digest for many supporters. The leader remains a player capable of great things, but can he really lead the Dubs to final victory? Not for this journalist, who reveals that the arrival of CP3 is not purely sporting.
It will take time, but the Warriors will have to get used to an association between Steph Curry and Chris Paul next year. It is not yet known if the newcomer will start, but CP3 made it clear to Steve Kerr that he wanted to be in the starting 5. The reason is simple: he still thinks he has the level, even if he will have to prove that he is capable of shining alongside such players.
The real reason behind Chris Paul coming to the Warriors
His altruism will not be too much for Golden State, but can he really bring this added value to win the title? Let’s say that doubt is allowed among the supporters. The latest statement by journalist Brian Windhorst does not help, since he explains that the signing of Paul did not take place in a sporting interest, but rather financial…
Brian Windhorst on the Chris Paul deal:
« Imma say the quiet part out loud… The reason why the Warriors did the Chris Paul deal, #1, it was a salary dump.. they didn’t do this deal because it was a good fit »— Baltej (@Baltej_hoops) July 19, 2023
Brian Windhorst on the Chris Paul deal: “I’m going to say that bit of a low-key part out loud. The reason the Warriors brought in Chris Paul is because it allowed them to let go of a big contract, they didn’t because it stuck between them. »
Yes, Paul’s contract is much lower than Poole’s. The point guard is due for 31 million this season, plus 30 million next year, but only 15.8 is guaranteed. The rear, meanwhile, will receive 128 million over the next 4 years from September.
Financially, it is more advantageous to have Paul rather than Poole in its workforce in view of the emoluments. According to Windhorst, we can therefore say that the Warriors may have regretted having given such a contract extension to the player last summer, especially since he has disappointed in this campaign. Not impossible, although CP3 is still largely level despite some injuries.
It was obviously a financial trade from the jump. Anybody with any hoop knowledge at all knew this right away.

It was obviously a financial move from the start. Anyone with knowledge already knew that.
Chris Paul at the Warriors? The interest could well be financial before being sporting. We know in advance that the Dubs will deny such an idea, but it is not impossible either. The owner certainly sleeps better knowing Jordan Poole’s contract is gone…
