On the paved road to Le Mans, CD Sport performed very well with young people who were new to the circuit.
CD Sport produced an exemplary performance on the major 24 Hours circuit during Road to Le Mans.
The pole position signed by Fabien Michal and the 3rd place that the Isérois shared with the young Kirill Smal propelled the team from Dordogne to 2nd provisional place with the Ligier JS P320-Nissan 2. As for Shahan Sarkissian and Franck Chappard, they should not take long to materialize given the potential they have once again displayed at the wheel of the 11.
A big result at only 18 years old
Kirill Smal, who discovered the venerable Sarthe circuit at just 18, achieved a fine performance by setting the 11th time during the first qualifying session which brought together the highest-ranking “Silver” drivers. The “Bronze” drivers’ session saw Fabien Michal take his first pole position in LMP3, which was also his team’s first at Road to Le Mans.
Race 1 ended far too early for this crew, when Fabien spun out of the Daytona chicane, in the Hunaudières. On the other hand, race 2 ended on the third step of the podium for the two CD Sport drivers who are now in 2nd place in the championship, not far from the lead.
The two drivers of the 11 were absolute beginners on the Le Mans circuit. The large number of cars on the track, combined with the short duration of the free sessions and the incessant neutralizations, make up some very tough obstacles.
In qualifying session 2 for the “Bronze” drivers, Shahan Sarkissian still managed to set a remarkable 6th time. It was therefore in race 2 that this crew had the best chance of shining and in fact, it was in the Top 10 until eight minutes from the checkered flag and this spin from Franck Chappard at the Daytona chicane .
Claude Degrémont, managing director of CD Sport remains positive all the same. “We are starting to have a lot of experience with this event and this atypical route. We have just won our third LMP3 podium of the year in three very different events, to which we must add a victory in the Endurance Proto Challenge NP02. We want to continue to build on this good momentum. »
