A year after an accident two laps from the finish, William Byron gets his revenge in the NASCAR Cup Series at Darlington Raceway on the occasion of the Goodyear 400, to offer the No. 24 its hundredth victory in the premier division of the NASCAR.

In 2023, no Joey Logano to tickle the back of William Byron’s #24 Chevrolet Carmaro at Darlington Raceway. As a result, the Hendrick Motorsports driver won for the third time this season and the seventh time in his career. This success is the fifteenth for Hendrick Motorsports at Darlington Raceway, the first since 2012 and a victory for Jimmie Johnson who won the two-hundredth victory for the team that day. This Sunday, William Byron brings the most victorious team closer to four units of three hundred victories in the NASCAR Cup Series.

During the final restart of the race William Byron got the better of Kevin Harvick and crossed the finish line almost eight tenths ahead of the 2014 champion.

It’s quite incredible. Today everything worked. I would like to wish my mom a happy birthday. Everyone did a great job.

William Byron

Under the checkered flag William Byron leads Kevin Harvick, Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski and Bubba Wallace for the top 5. Harrison Burton has his best race of the season and is sixth, ahead of Kyle Busch, Justin Haley, Ryan Blaney and Chris Buescher .

Dominant during the first two segments of the race, Martin Truex Jr. saw Ross Chastain come back at the end of the second segment. The Trackhouse Racing driver took the best and on the last lap of the segment, he defended his position while refusing to take a lap from his teammate Daniel Suárez. As a result, Martin Truex Jr. tried to regain control, but got into a collision with Ross Chastain and spun.

The last segment of the race opens with an accident involving nine drivers including Erik Jones following a loose wheel. The Legacy Motor Club driver will be penalized two laps while nine drivers will be involved in the accident, including Michael McDowell, Austin Cindric and Austin Dillon.

Larson/Chastain, the new rivalry?

A few laps earlier, it was a collision between Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr, in the first positions of the peloton which led to a neutralization, while at the same time, Kyle Larson pushed Ross Chastain into the outside wall for first place. .

A few laps later, Ross Chastain gave back to Kyle Larson, which brought an end to the race under the regime of theOvertime.

Next week the NASCAR Division One field will return to North Wilkesboro Speedway for the second non-championship event of the season, the All-Star. It will take two weeks for the next championship race, the longest of the season, the Coca-Cola 600.
