Daily face-to-face Hockey analysts Frank Seravalli and Mike McKenna discussed the status of Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone on Tuesday’s episode of Daily face-to-face live.
Stone, 30, has 17 goals and 38 points in 43 games this year but made an early exit in the Golden Knights’ 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers on Jan. 12 and hasn’t played since.
According to Seravalli, there are growing fears that Stone may be suffering from a similar back injury to the one that limited him to just 37 games last season.
Here’s the full exchange on Stone between McKenna and Seravalli on Tuesday’s episode of Daily face-to-face live:
Mike McKenna: Alec Martinez left Monday’s game, he did not return. They also miss Shea Theodore and Zach Whitecloud, who are on IR. Brett Howden is out. But what’s going on with Mark Stone? He was absent from training for a while, do you have any news from him?
Frank Seravalli: I forgot my stethoscope today, Mike, but Dr. Seravalli has office hours today. Yes, Mark Stone, I can say with confidence, is dealing with another back problem, and that must be scary news for the Vegas Golden Knights and their fans considering what he’s been through for the year. last with his back injury and the subsequent procedure he underwent to try to put things right. I think the only fluid part of it, Mike, for the Vegas Golden Knights is, exactly how bad is that back injury? They’re still trying to figure that out.
Obviously, it’s no secret that Stone is going to miss some time. Bruce Cassidy, their trainer, was saying it’s weekly, so it’s definitely not day-to-day or anything like that. And where it really starts to get interesting, Mike, is: what if Mark Stone is potentially going to be out for the rest of the season? I’m not reporting this or saying it’s a fact or that it can happen, but I think if you look at the Vegas Golden Knights, who have always been very aggressive when it comes to trying to improve their team, if all of a sudden they have over $9 million in the LTIR space to play, so watch out – as they will be one of the main teams to watch before the deadline. NHL trades on March 3.
