Letsile Tebogo is promised a bright future. With disconcerting ease on the track, the 19-year-old Botswana sprinter has room for improvement. Some observers are already comparing him to legend Usain Bolt, who turns out to be his idol.
It was at the World Under 20s currently being held in Cali, Colombia that the youngster impressed with a stunning time in the 100m. Already world champion in the category in 2021, the Batswana did it again to retain his 100m title overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday. With a time of 9″91, Letsile improved his own record (9″94) in his age category.
The phenomenon begins by making a name for itself and making its way to the elite of the discipline. Regularly below 10 seconds since the beginning of the year, the African athlete proves the new dimension in which he finds himself.
Bolt and soccer fan
According to information from RMC Sports, Letsile Tebogo is a big fan of Usain Bolt. Recently he confided how the Jamaican’s career and methods inspire him.
» I admire him. Everything I learned during my training, I added what I knew from him. Including his diet” explained the talented youngster in the columns of the Spanish newspaper Marca.
And like the Jamaican legend, before athletics, the young Botswanan was a huge football fan. But relegated to the bench, Tebogo quickly made the decision to move towards the slopes. Which suits him quite well.
“In football, they always left me on the bench, which frustrated me. This motivated my decision to choose athletics, since I saw that it allowed me to put food on the table for my family” he added.
