A member of the Williams F1 Academy and currently 3rd in the Formula 2 championship, American Logan Sargeant will be driving the FW44 during the first free practice session of the United States Grand Prix which will take place in Austin from 21 to October 23.
On this occasion, he will replace Nicholas Latifi on the Circuit of the Americas on Friday morning. For the British team, this will be the second compulsory test for a young driver, who had already tested Nyck de Vries in Barcelona earlier this year.
« I’m very excited to have the opportunity to play my first free practice in Austin, » said Sargeant, 22. « Having the chance to participate in the United States Grand Prix is something extremely special for me. A big thank you to Williams who believes in me and in my ability to do a good job. The goal will be to learn the as possible from this new generation of cars. I look forward to making the most of this experience. »
Sven Smeets, Williams F1 Sporting Director, added: « Logan has shown great ability and maturity so far this season, both on and off the track. He’s won races in Formula 2 and worked hard in the simulator. He seemed fair to reward his efforts by offering him the opportunity to participate in free practice in Austin. We are looking forward to seeing him behind the wheel of the FW44 and to see his performances and his feedback, which will be aimed at helping the team to prepare Austin weekend best. »
