At the Hungarian Grand Prix press conference, F1 drivers were asked what changes they would like to see in F1 if they had the chance to change the rules. Max Verstappen would like to make a few more changes to the single-seaters.

« We can follow each other better so it’s positive. But of course, there is the weight of the cars, they are extremely heavy » said Verstappen. « It’s not great, and I don’t really see a quick fix. But overall things are looking a bit better. »

« It’s hard to expect it to be much better, but at least you have a better fighting chance. But again, on some tracks it’s still really hard to keep up. But that’s also in combination with overheating tires and other things. So there are several things to look at. »

Lance Stroll would also like to see lighter F1 cars in the future: « I think one of the main things would be the lightening of the cars. I think the weight of the cars has become too heavy and I would like to see that improved in the years to come. »

« There are a lot of things we can change and improve, but I think it’s something we could improve on to make the cars a bit more fun and nimble to drive. »

Penalty points, faster cars…

Yuki Tsunoda would like to make a change related to his situation, and this would be to not receive penalty points: « Probably penalty points. Currently I’m first! So something like that. »

George Russell struggles to find one change to make in particular: « It’s so difficult. You can’t put your finger on one thing. It’s like Lance and Max said, lighter cars would be good. »

« But you can’t have everything in the world. If they’re heavier, it’s for security reasons. So I don’t know. I can’t really choose one, because there are too many compromise. Maybe faster cars. »

Carlos Sainz struggled to identify a specific change, and he would like to test a one-design race against his rivals one day: « I have a lot of ideas but they are all impossible. I would like to try a race where we all have the same grip available in our cars, just to see. The same speed and the same grip. »

Verstappen gave another idea, that of reducing the length of the season: « Less races » said the Dutchman, giving his ideal number: « I would say 16. Just pick all the right circuits. Let’s leave all the others aside. »
