The Sport Turismo version of the Porsche Taycan takes on the air of a shooting wagon, with obvious elegance. A line that reinforces the imposing side of Porsche’s 100% electric car with respectable dimensions. The Taycan station wagon is 4.96 m long, 1.97 m wide and only 1.39 m high.
Our GTS version benefits from LED matrix headlights, window surrounds and logos painted in black, as well as magnificent rims which will have to be taken care of with such a size on the small roads of Sardinia. The set also turns out to be much lower than a Cross Turismo, which means being vigilant about the illegal speed bumps that abound on our roads.
A luxurious and neat station wagon
Inside we find the Porsche universe with a dashboard meticulously designed down to the smallest detail. Our test model was equipped with a panoramic roof whose glass can be hidden, one of the many and very expensive options available in the catalog.
The driving position is exemplary thanks to the many adjustments while the cabin is full of leather, Alcantara and carbon on all floors. The multimedia system is pleasant with efficient navigation. The passenger will also be able to enjoy an optional touch screen in front of him.
In the back, the headroom is good, even for tall people, but the view will be obstructed by the big bucket seats in the first row, further reinforcing the feeling of being cramped. Obviously, as on all cars of the German brand, the start button is located to the left of the steering wheel. Contact !
From the very first turns of the wheel, we rediscover the universe of the brand with a steering wheel with the perfect diameter and rim thickness. The sports chassis of our test version is specific and lowered compared to the other versions. If the GTS is not the most powerful Taycan, an honor reserved for the “Turbo” versions, the performances are already stratospheric.
It still develops 598 horsepower thanks to the use of two motors integrated into the front and rear axles. Accelerations stick to your seat, the speeds reached could send you directly to our automobile law section, before you even realize it. But that might not be the most impressive thing.
Electric cars offering supercar performance are less and less rare, starting with Teslas. But the Porsche, with its particular architecture, has a two-speed gearbox, unlike its competitors.
Result, the thrust seems never to weaken. On the roads of Sardinia, the very low center of gravity, the studied running gear and the general balance of the car work wonders. So much so that this Porsche seems to push the limits of physics.
She always wants more
By selecting the “Sport Plus” driving mode, you get a supersonic space shuttle sound, a stiffer car, and even more efficient. A mode that could well disconnect the driver’s brain as well.
The 2310 kilos of the beast are forgotten, especially since the braking is up to the Porsche reputation with six pistons in front and four on the rear discs.
This GTS then delivers its almost 600 horsepower in one block, giving you a thrust capable of surprising the most seasoned pilots. At this stage, the last meal swallowed by your passengers will certainly have already been remembered in their fond memories.
Autonomy and charging
With a gross capacity of 93 kWh, the battery of our GTS promises on paper an appreciable autonomy. During our test, in normal driving, we consumed 25 kWh in mixed and 28 kWh on the highway. Very correct values in terms of size and performance.
Clearly, you can count on a range of 400 km on the secondary network and more than 300 km on a motorway route. A heat pump, unfortunately optional, can extend the autonomy in winter. But it is when recharging that this Taycan could surprise you. Able to collect up to 270 kWh in charge, it will take about 22 minutes to go from 0 to 80% on a fast terminal.
Finally, is this electric Porsche capable of making you forget the thermal Porsches? Purists will always answer this question in the negative. For others, the question no longer arises. After test-driving this Taycan, you’ll forget it doesn’t use petrol.
With its supernatural efficiency, it’s more than ever a real Porsche. Would this Porsche be perfect? In a world where money wouldn’t be a problem, certainly. In real life, this GTS Sport Turismo starts at €136,000. To afford our test model, richly equipped, it will be necessary to put another €40,000 at the end. Perfection does not exist.
